| Ladder Rules |
All random map, deathmatch (single and team games) and Free For Alls (FFAs) between TOAO members count towards the ladder and thus will be assumed to be ladder games. |
Scenarios are not counted as ladder games. |
Game Settings (map, population limits, victory conditions, etc) are to be agreed by all players involved in the ladder game. |
All games will be assumed to be ladder games unless someone states that they do not wish it to count. If you don't want it to count, you must say so before you see your starting position. |
Team games must start with an even amount of players on both sides. |
Only team games in which all of the participants are TOAO members will count towards the ladder. |
There can be only one winner in Free For Alls (FFAs). |
| |
 |
| Disconnections |
Any game that gets disconnected, should be restored. |
If the dropped player does not come back within 10 minutes, it will be assumed they have lost, unless, the dropped player can produce a recording, posted in the appropriate reporting section thread the same day the game was played, demonstrating they most definately would have won. |
Any disputes such as relating to players dropping will be resolved by the ladder operator, administrator or an appointed judge to view the recording of the game in question. |
In team games,
When one player has disconnected from the game. The rest of the players must decide if they will save/restore or continue the game without the dropped player.
If they do decide to save and restore the game, the player that disconnected has 10 minutes to get back online for the game to resume. If that player does not come back then the game resumes with the remaining players. If they are unable to restore the game then the team that had the player that disconnected forfeits and the other team is awarded the win.
If the player that disconnected did so in the first 10 mins of the game then the game will be considered voided. However if all agree from that point to go on with uneven teams and resume the game, the game will count. |
The ladder operator reserves the right to add, remove, or otherwise modify the rules if required to maintain the integrity of the ladder. |

| Scoring |
TOAO Ladder 1vs1 scoring
| Expert | Upper | Inter | Grook | Rook | Newby |
| Expert: 155+ points | 6 | 3 | 3 | 1 | 1 | 1 |
| Upper: 106 - 154 points | 9 | 6 | 3 | 3 | 1 | 1 |
| Inter: 81 - 105 points | 12 | 9 | 6 | 3 | 3 | 1 |
| Grook: 61 - 80 points | 15 | 12 | 9 | 6 | 3 | 3 |
| Rook: 31 - 60 points | 18 | 15 | 12 | 9 | 6 | 3 |
| Newby: 20 - 30 points | 21 | 18 | 15 | 12 | 9 | 6 |
|
The winner of a game is awarded the points given according to above scoring table that applies to their opponent's rank, while the loser loses that same amount of points.
Example: You currently have 108 points and are thus ranked as an Upper. You play, and beat another TOAO member who has 166 points and is therefore ranked as an Expert. You can see in the scoring table that the Expert ranked players are worth 9 points to you. Hence, you gain 9 points for defeating the Expert player. |
Team games are scored by averaging the ranks of the team and is scored using the 1vs1 scoring table, but it is scaled down according to the number of players using the following formula:
no. of points x (1- (0.05 x no. of players))
Example: A 2vs2, you and your teamate rank average is a Grook and the losing team rank average is Inter. According to the 1vs1 scoring, you would have gained 9 points, but because it is a 2vs2, it is scaled down to: 9 points x (1- (0.05 x 4 players)) = 7 points. |
In Free For Alls (FFAs), all of the losing players will give up a point and they will be given to the winner.
Example: A 5 player FFA match, all of the losing players will lose 1 point each, but the winner will gain 4 points.. |

| The Champion |
The only way a Champion can be replaced is by defeating the current Champion regardless of who has the most ladder points. It is possible for the Champion to have less ladder points then other ladder players. You must have at least played two games in order to win the championship. If a new player or someone who has played less then two ladder games beats the champion, the Champion does not lose his title, only points. |
The Champion will continue to earn points for wins according to the category he is in, by the same point structure as everyone else.
Example: If the Champion is in the Inter rank he will get 6 points for defeating players from the inter rank, 3 points for defeating players in the Grook rank, etc. |
If the Champion is defeated then the player who defeated him replaces him as Champion. The new Champion is awarded ladder points according to both players categories for his victory over the old Champion, and old Champion loses points for his lose. Team games do not count as Championship games. So if the Champion is involved in a team game, and is on the losing side the Champion does not lose his title. |

 |
| Mandatory Rematch For the Champion |
If a Champion who has held the title for more then 24 hours, loses his title, he has the right to a rematch. |
The new Champion must give the old Champion a rematch game. This game can take place right after the originial game and will be considered a ladder game. This rematch game must be played before the new Champion plays any other ladder games that would be considered Championship games. |
The old Champion must ask for the rematch within 24 hours and/or can post the request for a rematch in the ladder thread with in 24 hours. |
If no request is made for a rematch with in 24 hours then the new Champion is free to play anyone he wants and have it considered a Championship game. |
If a game is played involving the new Champion with in this 24 hour period it will not be recognised as a Championship ladder game unless the rematch game has been played and won by the new Champion. |
If this request for a rematch is not met then the new champion would lose his title and a new Champion would be crowned according to the rule below ( Challenging the Champion ). |
| |
 |
| Challenging the Champion |
Anyone can challenge the champion, and the champion must make an effort to play the challenger. |
A challenge from a certain player must only be mandatorily met once a month. |
It is the challenger who chooses the game settings (RM/DM and map), not the champion. The champion still gets to choose his own civilisation, but that is the limit. All else is decided by the challenger. |
| |
 |
| No Response From the Champion |
If no response from the Champion is made in a certain amount of time, appropriate action will be made by either the leader of TOAO, the Ladder operator or the admin staff. |
